Gertrude Fishergrew has been studying ancient ruins of both Pokemon and man alike for 35 years now. Her skills and findings in the fields of archaeology, both terrestrial and marine, had earned her such acclaim she was knighted by the Queen. In her younger days she was an ardent swimmer, winning several contests and even an Olympic silver medal. Despite her age she is a ruthless trainer and battles with the ferocity of a Primape. It is said once she took on a whole flock of Aerodactyles, when she disturbed their slumber excavating an old cavern, single handedly. One day she overheard some of her colleges discussing a massive pyramid in a treacherous and unexplored desert. She was intrigued by this mysterious pyramid. She asked her colleagues why nobody has studied or explored this ancient place, they told her it was because everyone was afraid of a deadly curse that allegedly said to befall anyone who tries to get close to it. Gertrude was not to be detoured by some petty superstitions. She vowed to be the first to study, in full, every inch and stone of this pyramid. Although none of her team would risk the curse so she decided to go off by herself. It would not be the first time Gertrude ventured off alone to explore dangerous ruins. She started her search in one desert town said that it's people's descendants build the great pyramid. She gathered as much information the people could offer, combing through their libraries, reading every text she could find. Eventually after much trudging through the vast deserts she found the pyramid. However, before setting off to uncover the pyramids secrets, she sought to examine a small, ruined town close to the base of the pyramid. She started exploring the town and resolved to camp here and head off in the morning and would set off in the early morning to start excavating. Gertrude found one of the hovels that had fared the passage of time better then the others and made herself cozy inside it. During the night Gertrude was plagued by horrible nightmares. Strange and frightening creatures, that appeared aquatic in nature. They were the most bizarre and ghostly monsters she could believe and made most awful noises and glided around chillingly through her mind. In the morning Gertrude was still reeling from her nightmares but vowed to pressed on to the pyramid. She found something odd as she approached the structure. There was water pooling around one of the corners of the pyramid. As she got closer to it she found a small opening in which the water was pouring out from under the pyramid itself. Hankering back to her university days she dove into the water and swam through the crack in the pyramid's foundation. As she made her way through the water, she found strange glowing stones amongst the sands. When she surfaced she found the the pyramid was hollow inside. At first glance there appeared to be a beach, and small ocean inside. She climbed out of the water, but before she could something grabbed her leg, and pulled her back down. Acting upon instinct she sent out her Relicanth to confront what had attacked her. It was a Jellicent! In fact there was several of them in this make shift ocean. "So" she realized "this must be the deadly curse people have been fearing". Her nightmares made sense, the Jellicant were using there ghostly powers to keep people away from this place, but for what reason and why would Jellicent be here in the first place. Gertrude decided to stay in the pyramid and research these unusual findings. She set up a base camp, building several huts by hand so she could continue her studying. Also she built a laboratory for herself.
